MS GAME DAY FAQs
What should my GroupMe profile look like? *IMMEDIATE ACTION ITEM*
First, every player should have ONE ADULT in our GroupMe group. Download the app on your phone and join our Group (email for link). Players are also welcome to join so they can RSVP to our games, but an adult is required.
Second, we would prefer that your GroupMe profile name look like this: John Smith (Bobby). It should be your name with your player’s name in parentheses. If you have multiple kids playing with us, you can add both within the parentheses or have separate adult accounts for each child. Another option is for each player to have a GroupMe account and RSVP to their own games (an adult also needs to be in the group). We support their responsible participation in this aspect.
We ask this so when you RSVP to games we can easily tell which players are associated with the RSVP. We don’t always know who John S. is, but we know who Bobby is!
What teams/divisions does Hudson Rugby Club have?
There is one girls team (6-8th grade).
There is one Modified Tackle boys team (5-6th).
There are two Tackle boys teams (7-8th): Blue Side & White Side. An email was sent out to 7/8th parents with your player’s side assignment last week. If you do not know, please reach out immediately.
How do I see the game schedule & RSVP?
Games for each division are loaded into GroupMe->Main Chat->Calendar. Scroll to the appropriate division and RSVP. You can always change your RSVP.
BOYS 7/8: Please RSVP to the correct side you were assigned.
In general, please RSVP by the Thursday prior to Game Day. We understand things come up and that might change as we get closer.
Cleveland’s Master Schedule is available here, so you can double check our schedule at any time. You really have to pay attention to the tabs at the bottom and the date.
I have multiple kids playing. How do I RSVP for them both?
If your kids are both playing in the same Division and therefore have the same game schedule, you have a couple options. One, if you only have one GroupMe account, both of their names should be listed in your profile name and your one RSVP will count for both of them. We will assume they can both attend or not attend. Two, have two GroupMe accounts (either multiple adults or the kids have their own account) and RSVP for them separately.
If your kids are playing in separate divisions and therefore have a different game schedule, you also have a couple options. One, if you only have one GroupMe account, both of their names should be listed in your profile name and you can RSVP for both of their games. Two, have two GroupMe accounts (either multiple adults or the kids have their own account) and RSVP for them separately.
What time are the games?
Specific game times & fields are listed in the notes for each game day event. The start time listed for each game day event is the ARRIVAL time. We set it up this way so that when you get a reminder, it is for the arrival time, not game time.
My son plays 7/8 tackle and the exact schedule isn’t listed beyond April 6th. Why?
There is relegation play in this division. That means that they will take a look at teams’ records through April 6th, and seed the teams appropriately. This allows us to play teams that match our talent level. We don’t want to crush teams, nor spend the season being dominated by stronger teams. Unfortunately, that means we do not know our exact game times for the whole season, but they will always start between 2:10-6:10p.
Where are the games?
Girls and 7/8 Boys play at St. Ignatius in Cleveland. We suggest you park in the lot at 2015 W 28th Street, Cleveland. Kyle & McLaughlin fields are right next to the lot. We typically congregate & warm up on the far side of Kyle, near Magis Center. There is no seating available here, so we suggest you bring a folding chair.
Boys 5/6 play at St. Edwards in Lakewood. We suggest you park in the lots by the stadium (13500 Detroit Ave, Lakewood, OH 44107). Games are played in the Stadium. We typically congregate & warm up near the western-most endzone (left side if your back is to the school). There are bleachers at this stadium, but parents also bring chairs to sit field-side.
Entry to all games is free of charge.
When do we receive our uniforms?
Our new uniforms are delayed at US Customs, so we will use last year’s jerseys for the first weekend. We have limited shorts available, so if you have navy (or black) shorts please wear those. Socks were distributed already and we have extras if you didn’t get a pair. If you have any extra navy socks, bring them.
Hopefully we will have our uniforms by week 2 games!
What should I bring to games?
Spectators: Folding chair, umbrella
Navy or Black shorts
Team Socks or navy socks
Cleats
Mouthguard x2
Water
Slides/tennis shoes
Deodorant
Extra socks
Snacks or money for nearby food options
Tight under layers (leggings, dri-fit shirt)
Rain Jacket
Sunscreen
What if I have a general question?
Please use the “Chat - Parents/Coaches” thread in GroupMe. This thread is for communication only. You can also DM coaches: Anna Walters (MS Director/Girls), Matt Graser (7/8th boys) and Mike O’Brien (5/6th boys).
The “Main Chat” thread contains the game & practice calendar and gets bogged down with lots of RSVP chatter. So, please only use this thread for its calendar function.
We will tweak our GroupMe usage next year so this is more functional and encourage your feedback so we can improve on this tool.
